I'm sad to post the passing of Gus Beekman (obituary NY Daily News 12/4) Former Fire Comm. and 4 batt. Chief. He was truely a Gentleman and it was an honor to know him and work under his leadership RIP

Gus Beekman was a man that was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. He was a "fireman's fireman" and will be sorely missed. may his soul rest in eternal peace.

I came on the job just after Gus Beekman had left Batt 4 (and as a previous Captain of Engine 17) but met him on many "Chief's Visits" in quarters and at numerous Banquets & Rackets. He was admired by all who were fortunate to have known and served under his command, he will be sorely missed and may he rest in God's peace.
